Rocky Mountain National Park Makes Getting In Easier with Special Device

Rocky Mountain National Park will started to sell automated gate transponders again on Sunday, April 13. These devices help visitors enter the park faster.

Visitors can buy these transponders at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. on Sundays.

Special lanes
The transponders attach to a car’s windshield and let visitors use special lanes at the Beaver Meadows and Fall River entrances, writes Sky-Hi News. A new transponder lane will also open at the Grand Lake entrance, replacing one destroyed by the 2020 East Troublesome Fire.

‘Transponders must be placed on the inside, top-right of a vehicle’s windshield. When using a transponder in the park, visitors must have their passes with them as well’, the report states. These special lanes help reduce lines and traffic congestion during busy times at the park.

Available with annual and lifetime passes
The transponders cost $15 and are available to people with annual and lifetime passes. Each pass allows the purchase of one transponder, which is good for up to one year. Renewing a transponder costs $5, but this fee is being waived for those who bought transponders between February and June 2024.

The park stopped selling transponders in June 2024 because of technical problems, but these issues have now been fixed.
