Mountain Lion Hunt Thrills Visitors at Texas National Park
A mountain lion was seen hunting deer right outside the Chisos Basin Visitor Center at Big Bend National Park, giving tourists an exciting wildlife show.
“Tourists witnessed the pursuit from both the roadway and the railing of the visitor center”, writes Unofficial Networks. “While we don’t know if the mountain lion caught the deer, studies show these big cats only succeed in about 10-15% of their hunts.”
Big Bend National Park in Texas is huge – covering 1,252 square miles, which is bigger than Rhode Island. The park is home to 75 different kinds of mammals, from tiny Western pipistrelle bats weighing just 0.2 ounces to black bears that can weigh up to 250 pounds.
Mountain lions are among the park’s most impressive residents. Every year, more than 150 mountain lion sightings are reported by park visitors. Most sightings happen along roads, but some occur on hiking trails too.
