Kings Canyon National Park Reopens Popular Area After Winter Closure

Good news for nature lovers! A beautiful area in Kings Canyon National Park will soon welcome visitors again after being closed for the winter.
Park officials have announced that the Cedar Grove area will reopen on April 25 at 7 a.m., giving visitors access to one of the park’s most scenic locations.
Rockslides and debris
This reopening comes after months of hard work to make the area safe for visitors, writes KSEE/KGPE. Teams from the California Department of Transportation, PG&E, and the National Park Service worked together to clear rockslides and debris from winter storms.
Workers are still trying to restore power to Cedar Grove before Friday. However, visitors should know that only vault toilets will be open at first. Park officials recommend bringing your own water, food, and other supplies if you plan to visit.
Repairs continue
More facilities will open as repairs continue. Sentinel Campground is set to open on May 9, followed by the Cedar Grove Market and Lodge on May 10. Other campgrounds including Sheep Creek, Canyon View, and Moraine will open later in 2025 after safety repairs are completed.
If you’re planning a trip, be sure to check for updates on available services before heading to Cedar Grove.
