Grand Canyon Updates Trail Schedule: What Hikers Need to Know

Grand Canyon National Park has announced important changes to its construction schedule, including both reopenings and closures that will affect visitors in the coming months.
Good news for hikers – the popular Bright Angel Trail and Campground will reopen on May 15 after being closed due to work on the Transcanyon Waterline, which provides essential water to the park and its visitors, writes KTAR.com.
Several areas will remain closed until October 1, including:
- The River Trail (between River Resthouse and South Kabib Trail junction)
- Silver Bridge and Plateau Point Trail (from Tonto Trail West junction to Plateau Point)
- Bright Angel Campground large group sites
Accessible
Hikers can still use the Black Bridge to cross the Colorado River through September 30. Starting May 15, the Bright Angel Trail from the South Rim trailhead to Pipe Creek Beach will be accessible, but visitors won’t be able to reach Phantom Ranch from the River Trail.
Additional construction from May 15 to September 30 will include maintenance on Silver Bridge and installation of new waterline and electrical infrastructure along the Plateau Point and River Trails.
