Banff’s Legendary Grizzly ‘The Boss’ Emerges from Winter Sleep

Banff's most famous grizzly bear number 122, also know as 'The Boss'.

Banff National Park’s famous grizzly bear, ‘The Boss’ has woken up from hibernation. The large male bear, officially known as grizzly bear 122, was seen in the Lower Bow Valley on April 7.

A trail camera took a picture of the bear after its long winter rest. This sighting is a clear sign that spring has arrived in the park.

First appearance of the season
Parks Canada has confirmed the sighting, as CTV News writes in their report about this well-known bear’s first appearance of the season.

“Bears are awake and active in Banff National Park. Bear activity will begin to increase within the national park, as spring arrives”, Parks Canada said in an emailed statement.

The park may close some areas when there is more wildlife activity. Parks Canada wants visitors to be careful and respect wildlife during their visit.
